The Playstation 3 is one of the biggest powers in console gaming, and their newest technological development, the Move, is making the next step forward in the world of entertainment. Providing users with accurate motion controls and interaction through a camera, the Playstation Move aspires to be the most immersive form of gaming on the market. Launch games range widely in their target audience, appealing to everyone from sports fans to casual gamers.

‘Launch games’ is the term used when discussing the games that are released for sale at the same time as the new piece of technology required to play them. Some of these games, such as Start the Party, are meant to help introduce users to the techniques involved in using their system. Start the Party teaches players basic control schemes and possible action while entertaining them with a competition against friends and family.

The Shoot can also be played with more than one person, featuring a kid-friendly rail-shooter, reminiscent of arcade classics. Motion controls become important for using the Move controller as a targeting device, and performing special moves the camera can see to activate special powers. Another game intended for children, or one’s inner child, is the game for the famous Toy Story 3 movie, which puts players in control of all their favourite characters.

Teens and adults will find their fair share of movie inspired titles as well, including Aragorn’s Quest and Tron Evolution. Featuring swordplay and horseback riding as main draws for Move users, Aragorn’s Quest focuses on The Lord of the Rings story from Aragorn’s point of view and his fight against the forces of evil. Tron Evolution’s central focus is on the story that happens between the original movie in the 80′s and the newest one, Tron Legacy, with emphasis on move control during vehicle segments.

Games that came out before the Move’s official announcement have gotten plenty of attention regarding motion controls. Among the most publicly desired games to receive Move updates is Heavy Rain, an interactive mystery that depends on players’ actions to choose how the story will progress. LittleBigPlanet is known for its ability to immerse players in their own created world, and the sequel will be exemplifying this by including Move capabilities.

These are just a few of the gaming possibilities the Move has to offer. Game developers can now begin to consider what other ideas could make a fascinating art piece, or entertaining dive into another world. Presented constantly in high definition, and some with 3-D capability, the Playstation Move has a promising future in immersive gameplay.
